Lecture Series

Painting in the Age of Digital Images”

This presentation considers the artist-painter as one who directly manipulates the tactile substance of paint and the sensory experience associated with that process.  That experience will be compared to the use of digital technologies and tools used to represent images within an electronic based media, and how these two processes share the contemporary aesthetic environment.

Consideration will be given to the interrelationship of time and artistic practice within the modern aesthetic.  The discussion will look at those time demands and how they may be in conflict with a culture of immediacy where in time is viewed as a more valuable commodity, more valuable than artistic practice.

Although this address will concentrate on painting the ideas and concepts are applicable to all two and three dimensional art forms.
